For your eyes only

If you’re planning a wedding this year then you’ll no doubt be super excited and brimming with ideas. What are you planning to wear under your wedding dress? A matching two-piece, sexy lingerie or maybe shapewear to hold you in? Consider your dress style, body shape and remember to factor in comfort. Here are some useful tips to help you make the best choice when it comes to choosing underwear for your wedding day.

When you’re wearing a bridal gown, whether it’s a heavy meringue with layers of underskirts or a lighter, slinkier number, it’s important to find the right underwear. Will you be wearing tights, stockings and suspenders or hold-ups? You’ll want to support your bust and make the most of it at the same time, whatever your size. If your gown is strapless or backless then where do find the right bra?

A bra and knickers is likely to be the most comfortable option and it’s definitely worth trying on several different types of bras with your wedding dress before you decide on one. Think about how it feels as much as how well it supports and how pretty it looks because wedding days can be long affairs and you do not want to be fidgeting all day! Whatever the style of wedding dress you choose, there is an underwear solution. You can find strapless, backless, multi-way, low-front and low-back bras, bras to support, maximise or minimise or push-up breasts to create cleavage.

Strapless dresses are still very much in vogue and many are gorgeous and flattering but they do differ greatly in their construction. Some are made with inner support for your bust while others will need a good strapless bra to be worn underneath. Backless or low-backed gowns can be worn without a bra but a clever multi-way bra is, for most of us, a much safer option.

If you want to look and feel super sexy then why not consider a one-piece Basque or corset. Some will support your bust and pull in your waist and tummy but not all so it is worth trying these on with your dress, ideally before buying. Most come with suspenders attached, just add knickers and stockings.

To achieve a flatter stomach, slimmer hips and a lifted bottom then consider shapewear. It can make a real difference and is certainly not all beige and scary looking nowadays. You can find a wide variety of shapewear with silky, lacy and sexy being just as important as shaping.

Tights, stockings or hold-ups are not a requirement of course but nylons can make your shoes more comfortable. Tights can get hot and itchy, stockings are sexier but are notoriously fiddly and hold-ups might not hold up all day. Again there is no and right and wrong so it’s best to try some on and find something that feels comfortable enough to be worn all day under a dress.
